Ground Level Four Season Family Room
Lower Level Family Room
Our property is located in the driftless area of the state which means that glaciers never made changes to the area. We are working with representatives of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Department of Agriculture and local conservation consultants to restore 10-15 acres to a pollinator prairie and restore an additional 25 acres to native oak savanna. The project is in it's beginning planning stages but as you come back from year to year, you will be able to witness the transformation of the area.
We are also restoring and improving 18 acres of land along a section of Sawmill Creek Trout Stream on our property. That property is not part of Hidden Bluff Lodge proper but it is nearby and is another part of our commitment to make the property a nature lovers paradise.
Phase One Complete
We have completed phase one of the Prairie and Oak Savanna restoration process. We have met with representatives of various State and Federal agencies and have developed a plan for the entire project including the codification of the goals of the project and the time table for completion of the work. If all goes well, the pollinator prairie should be in full bloom and completed in one to two years and the oak savanna should be restored in two to three years.
The next step is to accept the plan and start the work on the hard part which involves spraying and replanting of the prairie and brush clearing on the steep oak covered hillsides.
The wetland restoration will begin when the Prairie and Oak Savanna projects ae done.
The lower level master bedroom is located off the lower level family fireplace room and features a plush queen size bed with an attached 3/4 bath and large closet. The room is well lit and airy with windows to the west and the south. It features a good view of the woodland hillside behind the home.
The Yard and Play Structure
There is a huge yard to romp in with a play structure for the kids. There is also a large fire ring to the east of the home with plenty of free wood. All you have to provide is the s'mores and the stories. It is a great place to play but remember, kids must be supervised at all times!
The Prairie & Wetland Restoration
The kitchen and dining area sits on the main level of the home and flow together to form a natural gathering place where you can sit at the breakfast bar and watch the meal go together while you enjoy a cup of coffee, or sit at the pine table and enjoy a rousing game of cards, board game or a family feast.
The kitchen features stainless appliances including a stove with double oven, refrigerator, microwave, disposal, dishwasher and trash compactor and has everything you need to prepare a cozy meal for two or a hearty county feast.
The dining room table can be left open to comfortably sit six or the leaves can be folded and it can be moved to the wall for more entertaining space. Either way, it is good place for people to interact day and night. The vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and view to the loft, and the south facing windows provide a great view of the oak tree tops and the south deck is just steps away if you prefer to move outside.
There is another half bath near the front door for visitor or guest use in addition to the 3/4 bath in the Master Bedroom.
There is a one acre fenced pasture available for your horses close to the home and room to ride along the private gravel drive, rural roads, along the prairie trails on the property and at nearby Yellowstone State Park where there are miles of equestrian trails.
There is plenty of water and fresh grass but no barn for shelter. If you need hay brought in before your stay, let us know and we will make sure it's here and there is obviously plenty of room for your trailers.
If you are thinking about bringing your horses, be sure to mention it upon registration. We only allow experienced riders to ride outside the fenced pasture or on the private drive but you're welcome to trailer your horses to any of the nearby equestrian trails.
Coggins Papers Required
Our pasture is safe for your horses. Coggins papers are required for any animals that will be brought to the property. Please contact us before your visit so we can pre-approve your animals.
The lower level second bedroom is located off the lower level family room and features a plush full size bed. There are large windows facing south and east which provide a great view into the back yard. There is also a stacked washer and dryer in the closet.
The loft runs the length of the main level and is accessed from a staircase just inside the front door. It can be seen in several of the photos and it provides views down to the kitchen and dining room area below, but it has rails throughout for safety.
The east side of the loft has a couch and a couple bean bag chairs and a small TV with old fashioned kids video games. This area has been left open to be a kids area where toys can be left out and the kids can enjoy it as a tree fort of sorts.
The west side of the loft has a pair of futons and a desk and is another space to relax or read a good book or have a conversation with friends.
Ground level bedroom two is located just off the kitchen and features a plush queen size bed, sitting area and large closet and a west & north views that fills the room with light from the spectacular sunsets and lets you catch an occasional glimpse of a deer in the front yard.
There is a pack and play stored in the closet so that you can keep the kids close on the same level but away from the activity of the dining area for nap time.
Lower Level Bedroom Two
We are located about 2.5 miles east of Blanchardville in Green County Wisconsin. Blanchardville is in the upper right corner of the map depicted above.
There is a trail system access point, gas and supplies in the Village of Blanchardville nearby and other access points around Green and Lafayette Counties. We can't allow you to use your ATV's on our property by county ordinance, but we are a good base camp for use of the local trails which are extensive.
The ground level master bedroom is located just off the dining area and features a plush queen sized bed with an attached 3/4 bath and walk in closet. The knotty pine log walls and floor make the room is warm and inviting. There are east and south facing views to catch the sunrise and the treetops and the valley below.
